Meet Belle, a jolly and fun 7 year old gal who used to be a breeder dog. Retired from that, she is learning the ways of indoor family life, and she is loving it! She may have a few grey hairs around her face, but she has the heart of a much younger dog and enthusiastically joins any activity that our younger dogs do. She walks just great on a leash, and will be the perfect dog for someone who likes to take frequent walks. If not, then she is fine with cuddling up next to her human, which is one of her favorite activities too. She gets along well with all of her friendlier foster sisters; she does have her pride and when confronted by our alpha male, she doesn't shy away, but barks right back at him. For this reason I believe she would do best in a home with an equally friendly dog. Toward people though, she is quite submissive. She likes to be the center of attention, and so she would do well as an only dog too. She does great on long car rides and at the vet she is the perfect patient. She has had several teeth pulled, but can eat dry or soft food, and will dance in circles at mealtime. She is a medium sized beagle at 22 lbs.

Belle likes to run and will do best in a fenced yard, but we use long tie outs, and that works too. She is not a dog who can be off leash, as her sense of adventure may send her quickly into the neighbor's yard or after a squirrel or rabbit. She has a natural curiosity about everything and everyone, and is very excited and happy when new people come to visit. Belle has a lovely beagle voice; she does not bark often, but when she does, her bark and her howl are loud. We have not seen her reaction to cats or small children, but she has been great around older kids. She enjoys human interaction, and is working on her manners such as "no climbing on mommy", "sit for a treat", "no begging", and "no counter surfing the coffee table". She is also working on being house broken, but is crate trained and happily spends the night in her crate. Her crate is always clean and dry. She is coming along very nicely with house training and only needs to be monitored and taken outside throughout the day. She is not letting us know when she has to go out yet, but it won't be long now.

Belle is becoming interested in playing with toys, especially squeaky ones. She will sometimes frolic with a toy all by herself. She has little bursts of energy which are very fun to watch, usually toward evening.

So Belle is a very good natured dog who loves people and loves going for walks. Her cheerful disposition makes her a joy to be around. She is great with other dogs, will stand up to alphas, but could be an only dog as long as she is not ignored. As with all dogs, small children should be monitored when they are around.

NOTE: Dog may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI).
