Hi! My name is Ruby. I had a very bad life before coming to Midwest Brew.  I lived on a heavy chain in a small, confined space having lots of puppies.  I now have arthritis and disc disease in my neck and back. When I first went to my foster family, I could not raise my head due to the pain nor could I walk very well. I have been to the chiropractor multiple times. She has helped me a lot and I would benefit from monthly maintenance visits. Most days I’m not in pain but on the days that I am, I have pain meds. My back legs are still very weak, and I wobble when I walk. I do slip and slide on foster family’s tile floors so rugs have been put down for better traction.  I will never be able to jump up on a bed or couch, jump into or out of your car or go up or down stairs. You will have to pick me up if you want me to sleep with you or want to take me places in your car. I’m getting used to being picked up as foster mommy is very gentle.  I do love to ride and will curl up in the crate and sleep.  I love walks and my vet said I’m allowed 10-minute walks each day. This should help to build up my muscles in my weak legs.

I’ve been in my foster home for 4 months and at first I was scared but now I am happy and follow my foster mom everywhere she goes. I’m a happy girl and love to play with my stuffed toy. Every chance I get I’ll pick a cucumber from the garden and eat it….yummy!

I get so happy when foster mommy gets home from work that I hop and trot around the yard. Sometimes when I run I fall down but I get right back up and keep trotting. I’m doing very well on house training and know how to use a doggie door. Lately the only time I have an accident is when there are fireworks or rain.

I will do best in a calm environment. I love other dogs but I’d do best with calm dogs. I love the 2 resident senior beagles in my foster home and curl up with them at nap time. I need a fenced yard as I will seldom potty on a leash.  I am between 6 to 7 years old and weigh 25 lbs.

NOTE: Dogs may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI).
