Breed:
Beagle mix

Meet Cagney!  This adorable cutie is about 4.5 months old and is starting to lose the puppy toofers!  Cagney is a beagle mix but the beagle sniffing is strong.  She loves walks and is sometimes a little scared by new things, but is better every time we go out.  You must want a dog that snuggles!  As soon as you sit down, she wants to snuggle by your side or in your lap or under the blanket.

Cagney can be a little barky, so not best for an apartment.  She barks when meeting other dogs, but is fine when she meets them.  She loves to play and tires out both the lab and the pointer in her foster home.  The other dogs are good about correcting her puppy-ness and are very tolerant of her shenanigans like letting her take toys from their mouths.  If you have a very alpha dog, she might not get along.  Cagney does ignore the senior girl at home who wants nothing to do with her. She would love to have another dog to play with. She would also be fine to be an only dog, but you need to commit to exercising the energy out (a tired puppy is a good puppy).  Cagney sleeps in her crate at night and does great.  She also spends about 4 hours a day by herself.  Her crate is next to the pointer's crate so that is a comfort to her.  She barks for a few minutes, then settles down.  Cagney is also very smart - she knows sit, down, touch and wait.  She will be a fun dog if you like to train, especially for tricks.  Also, the adorable head tilt is strong!

NOTE: Dogs may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI).

Please read our Standards for Adoption and the information about beagles and puppies before you submit an adoption application. Remember that owning a puppy is a full time commitment and you must have the time to commit to a dog that will be with you for 12-17 years. Beagle puppies are cute - but they are very challenging. Puppies may eat your apartment (no refund of security deposit); people who are gone for more than 5 hours at a time will need to make dog walker, neighbor or doggie daycare arrangements. We discourage the adoption of puppies to families with children under the age of six, since puppies will chew toys, shoes, blankets, hands, feet and other important parts of your child's anatomy.
