Gender: Female Age: 10 months Status: Adopted

Claire is a striking beagle mix who is about 10 months old and weighs 32 pounds. Her previous owner wasn’t prepared to handle the higher energy level of a young dog, so she came to us to help her find a home with an active family.

Claire would benefit from formal training to help her channel her energy and to learn basic manners and commands (she already knows ‘sit’). She enjoys going for walks but will pull on her lead, so she will need to work on her leash walking skills as well. She enjoys playing rough and tumble with other dogs and playing chase with them, so she would do well with other young, high-energy dogs. A large, fenced-in yard where she can run and play would be ideal.

This beautiful girl is very affectionate with her people and does well with older children. If she’s not busy playing, she’ll be hanging out with you at your side. She’s housebroken when she has a regular routine and tolerates being in a crate for short periods of time and to eat dinner. Claire will also sleep in her crate, but would prefer sleeping in bed with her people, or in a dog bed near their bed. She has some separation anxiety but does well when she has another dog for company. She rides well in a car, so she’ll do fine when you’re driving to your next adventure together!

NOTE: Dog may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI).

Please read our Standards for Adoption and the information about beagles and puppies before you submit an adoption application. Remember that owning a puppy is a full time commitment and you must have the time to commit to a dog that will be with you for 12-17 years. Beagle puppies are cute - but they are very challenging. Puppies may eat your apartment (no refund of security deposit); people who are gone for more than 5 hours at a time will need to make dog walker, neighbor or doggie daycare arrangements; and we discourage the adoption of puppies to families with children under the age of six, since puppies will chew toys, shoes, blankets, hands, feet and other important parts of your child's anatomy.
