Meet Ford. He is 29 pounds of pure muscle and love. He will love every member of your family equally and miss you longingly while you are gone. He loves belly rubs and scratches around his neck and ears and he has an ability to press himself into you so that you can't help but notice and give him all the love he deserves.
He has a strong prey drive and will let you know about any wild creature that passes through your yard with a whimper and a bay. He loves going for walks and will sometimes take you for that walk. He wants to greet everyone that he sees, including other dogs. He is very active when he is outside but he also enjoys his naps on the couch after a short burst of the zoomies every evening. He likes to play with stuffed animals and chew toys. Sometimes while engaging in rough and tumble play, he will get a little nippy –like a puppy- so substituting an appropriate chew toy works well for him.
Ford will let us know that he needs to use the bathroom by pacing or going to the door. We regularly take him outside during the day, every 2-3 hours. He is able to sleep 7-8 hours overnight without a bathroom incident. He sleeps quietly on our bedroom floor. When we leave the house, he is good in a crate up to 8 hours, after an initial barking session that lasts less than a minute.
He will surf your counters and inspect your garbage so that needs to be stored out of reach.
Ford came into our foster home following a couple of surgeries to correct his cherry eye condition affecting the left eye. He still has a bit of inflammation in the center lower eyelid in which the vet is confident will continuing to decrease. He currently has an eye ointment that is applied 3 times a day.
Ford would probably do best in a private home with a 5-foot fenced yard. He will not do well with a tie out. He hasn't displayed any fears to loud noises or new situations. He would be okay with other dogs, but probably not cats. He would probably be good with older respectful children.
Everyone who has had an opportunity to meet Ford, in our home, has fallen instantly in love! Let us know if you’d like to know more about this handsome boy.
NOTE: Dog may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI).
