Rusty is a sweet and loving boy looking for his forever home! He will do best in a home with a fenced in yard. He is house trained and will go to the door and paw at it when he wants to go outside. Rusty has been given the run of the house and has done very well and has never been destructive. Rusty will at times go into his foster brother’s crate to sleep during the day. He is a lower energy dog, who loves a leisurely walk. He recently discovered that he likes toys and will search his toybox for the perfect stuffed animal to play with. Now that he has become more comfortable and relaxed in his foster home, he is becoming more playful and has begun to play fetch, which he really seems to enjoy!

Rusty’s human mom passed away and family members left him alone in the empty house. Fortunately, a neighbor saved him and contacted the rescue. Due to this, we feel he’d do best in a home with minimal alone time. When he first came to his foster home, he would howl and cry when left alone. As time has gone on, and he realized his foster mom was coming back, this has subsided. Rusty loves to spend time with his foster mom and cuddle on the couch or in his dog bed. He loves affection and attention and just wants to give his paw or put his head on his human’s lap; however, he is not really a lapdog and doesn’t enjoy being held.

Rusty is protective of his space and would do best in a home with no dogs or small children. He gets along well with the cat in the foster home. He loves to lie on the couch and look out the window. He is a great watchdog and barks if someone comes to the door. Rusty is normally a quiet dog who only barks at people coming to the door and at the neighbor dog on occasion.

Rusty has hypothyroidism, which is a very manageable and inexpensive condition, and takes thyroid meds twice daily. He weighs 37 pounds and has lost over 15 pounds within the past few months. He has several lipomas (fatty tumors), which are not a medical issue. He loves to go for walks and would benefit by losing a few more pounds. He will pull on the leash at times but can be easily redirected.

Rusty is a very good boy who has lots of love and companionship to offer and deserves all of the love and attention that he craves!
