Scruffles came to Midwest BREW as a breeder surrender. We promptly arranged for her spay surgery and the removal of a few benign masses. Now that she's healed and has been given a clean bill of health, her tail wags non stop, and she is eager to find her forever family.

Scruffles is a sweet 4 year old girl, with beautiful tri-color markings. She loves going for walks, exploring all the smells, and checking out all the dogs. She's happy to accept pets from children in the park. Back home, she's a bit of a couch potato, and is happiest if someone is sitting with her on that couch, giving her lots of love. She will leave the couch, however, if interesting things are happening in the kitchen.

She has a limp probably from some past injury (x-rays didn't show any current problems). We started with short ½ mile walks, and are up to walks between 1.25 and 1.5 miles, and she seems to do okay. Her family will want to keep an eye on that.

We're working on "sit" and "come," and also some leash manners. The other day she jumped on the coffee table - all four paws - hoping to snag some treats (a beagle true and true), so clearly she'll need continued work in this area! She is mostly house trained. She does well in a crate, but seldom goes in voluntarily. We initially had her sleep in her crate, but now she sometimes sleeps in a dog bed in our room, or on the couch. She does well in the car also.

She gets along fine with our dog; they have a "live and let live" arrangement, and share the couch. (We do have to be careful with treats, since Scruffles thinks she should get All The Treats.) We don't have children, but she has spent some time with our friends' 11 and 13 year olds, and did fine with them.

Scruffles is a calm and happy dog, who will accept as much love and pets and scratches as you will give her.
