Become A Volunteer

Midwest BREW’s volunteer program is the lifeline for our organization. We are always in need of volunteers in different capacities that are willing to share their time, energy, and expertise to help beagles in need.

Our Volunteer Opportunities:

Foster Homes: Provide temporary care for adult beagles, puppies and special need beagles while Midwest BREW works with adoption applicants to find a new, permanent home. Midwest BREW is looking for a special person/family with a strong commitment, patience, and time. Duration of stay varies depending on the adoption process. An interview and home visit by another Midwest BREW volunteer will be conducted before a foster beagle can be sent to a new foster home. See our fostering page for more information.

Transports: Midwest BREW takes in beagles throughout Western Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin from shelters, animal control officers, and owner surrenders. Beagles need to be transported from one location to another. Sometimes these transports involve many volunteers and many legs of a trip. Sometimes overnight stays are needed. Time, patience, a valid driver’s license, and an insured vehicle are a must for transporting beagles. Transports typically take place on the weekends.

Phone Interviews: One of the first steps in the adoption process is a phone interview conducted by a Midwest BREW volunteer. The phone interview consists of a list of standard questions regarding the potential adopter’s experience with dogs/beagles, living situation, and current pets, as well as information regarding the beagle breed. After the phone interview is completed, the volunteer relays the information to the Director of Adoptions by completing and emailing our phone interview form.

Home Visits: A Midwest BREW volunteer screens each prospective adopter’s and new foster’s home by means of a home visit. The home visit consists of a trip to the individual’s home to meet with them and all members of their household. After the home visit is completed, the volunteer relays the information by emailing the home visit form to either the Director of Adoptions or the Director of Volunteers in the case of a foster home visit.

Fundraising/Special Events: Help raise community awareness and assist with fundraising events, including our monthly Meet and Greet events, booth coverage for Pet Expos and Community Events, volunteering at Beaglefest, and other similar events.
