Gender: Female Age: 5 years Status: Available

Hi! This lovely young lady is Mandy. She is around 5 years old, and is looking for her forever home! Formerly, she only knew a hard life as a puppy mill mama, and since then has come a long way in learning how to be a family pet. When she first came to our foster home, she was very timid. She spent most of her time sleeping, and soon discovered a favorite dog bed. In fact, she still spends a lot of time in her bed; we think it is her “safe spot”. She even eats her meals there! She loves it so much, we purchased a new one for her, and it will go with her when she gets adopted.

Mandy is a little territorial when she is eating, and growls and barks if any other pet comes near her food. She prefers to dine alone, and also won’t eat while her humans are close by or watching. Other than that she hasn’t shown any signs of aggression and gets along with our own Beagle, even sleeping next to him sometimes. She does have separation anxiety, and will do better in a home where someone is with her most of the time. She hasn’t yet been much of a cuddler or snuggler, preferring her bed, but she has started to come to us for pets and scratches some. She doesn’t really play with toys; she doesn’t understand what to do with them when offered, and is quite the couch potato at home.

When asked to go for a walk, though, Mandy is a totally different dog! She loves to walk, and will do one to three miles four or five times a day if you have the time! She does pull, bark, and wants to chase when she sees a squirrel, rabbit, or other critter. She loves to spend time outdoors! Not everyone has the time to take long walks four or five times a day, so for this reason we are recommending a secure fenced yard.

Mandy does love to meet other dogs, and seems to get along okay with them. She is currently going to day care, and we recently went to an off leash park. At both places she did well greeting other dogs, but didn’t really interact with them or play with them. She does love the car rides to get to her favorite parks or Forest Preserve, and will give you thank you kisses when you get there! Watch out for power windows or open car doors though, she may try to escape! She also loves to see all the children we meet on our walks.

All in all, Mandy will make a great addition to someone’s family. If you love nature walks or hikes, and have the time and attention to devote to this pretty lady, Mandy is the dog for you! Contact Midwest BREW to find out more about her from her foster family!
