Beagle mix

Bowie is a 5-year-old, 25 pound Beagle-Shih Tzu mix. He is convinced that he is a little lap dog, and his coat is longer than a beagle’s, but when the UPS man comes to the door he will let out a howl that would make any beagle proud.

Bowie was an owner-surrender after the previous owner’s work situation changed, leaving Bowie confined to his crate for more than 8 hours a day. Bowie wants nothing more than to hang out with his family every minute of the day, so he would love a home where someone is usually there with him. He has shared a home with another dog and with a cat in the past and got along fine with both of them.

Bowie’s likes include brisk walks, treats (peanut butter and sweet potatoes are favorites), full contact snuggling on the couch, occasionally playing fetch with his toys, and sleeping in the big bed at night. His dislikes include walking in a straight line, chicken-based products (a possible allergy), spending long amounts of time in his crate, and being told not to climb onto the back of the couch.

Bowie gets very excited when he meets other dogs and people while he is out on a walk, and he needs to keep working on his tendency to jump on people when he greets them. He knows the commands come, sit, lie down, and stay and he usually performs them well. He is house trained and has only tried to mark once in his foster home. He sleeps quietly through the night and likes to hang out on the couch with a view of the neighborhood or under his foster mom’s desk while she is working from home. He is a little anxious in the car, but he rides fine in the backseat with a tether – otherwise he will hop into the front seat.

Bowie is a little ball of love, and he is a bit anxious about the recent upheaval in his life, but he will be happy to find a forever home where he can accompany his family in whatever they do.
