Fungo is a real treat—a sweet and gentle senior beagle who has two simple goals (besides eating, naturally): being close to his family members and being petted by them! He’s between 10-12 years old and is being treated for Cushing’s Disease. He must take his medication every day (1 capsule) for the rest of his life to prevent the symptoms from recurring. His hind legs are a little wonky due to arthritis and he takes an anti-inflammatory daily. His walks must be short. He CANNOT climb stairs so his new owners need a bedroom on the first floor. However, he very happily trots after family members to see where they’re going and he likes exploring the back yard.

Fungo is very accustomed to a crate—he sleeps in it from approximately 10:00 pm to 7-7:30 am and keeps it clean. He stays in a fenced off area in the family room when we go out and he does well there. He doesn’t get anxious when we leave and doesn’t chew on furniture, rugs, carpeting, etc. He does make off with the occasional sock or glove—he carefully carries his treasure to his bed and then goes to sleep on top of it!

Fungo is a quiet little guy—no barking at doorbells or at knocking, or even at squirrels, birds, or rabbits in the yard. It’s so funny when he comes out with some “ah-roos” when we get back after being gone for just an hour or two—it really does sound like he’s a bit out-of-practice! He’s pretty good about toileting outside and does head for the back door when he wants go out—we have to be on the lookout for that, though, since has not caught on to pawing or nosing at the bells that hang from the doorknob. Still a work-in-progress.

Fungo has shown very little interest in his toys, and he often LOOKS like he’s going to play when we roll a ball toward him or shake one of his squeaky toys for him, but I think he’s just humoring us. He’ll mouth the ball, or take the stuffed toy to his bed and then will come to us to be petted. Definitely no rough play with Fungo. He LOVES visitors and seems to view each of them as a possible personal massage therapist! He never jumps or barks, he walks up to a visitor, puts his head against their knee, and waits for a head scratch. He enjoyed the crowded house at Christmas and wanted to be in the middle of things. Fungo is the friendly, loving, deserving senior beagle you’ve been looking for!
