Always in our heart

Rainbow Bridge Tributes

Bagel

Bagel

I am writing to inform you that Bagel crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Saturday, April 19, 2025. She died peacefully in our arms at home.

Bagel captured our hearts the moment we picked her up October 6, 2020.We’ve had many wonderful adventures with her–and often frustrating😃–for almost five years.

She waited around six-seven months to have us wrapped around her paw before she started being “naughty”. Here is one of our favorite stories.

We have beveled edges on our cabinets. Once she learned how we opened the garbage door, it became her favorite thing to do. We had to put a handle on it with a chain and clip because nothing else worked. We would hear her nails clicking on the floor heading into the kitchen, then the rattle of the chain as she tried to open the door. This would happen multiple times a day. Sometimes she would go back and forth within a five-minute timeframe hoping something had changed even though no one had been in the kitchen before or during her multiple attempts. Also, checking the status of the door was the first thing she would do when she came in from outside. Even in her last days, she periodically checked that door.

It’s the annoying things we miss the most because those are the things
that tell us they are with us.

Thank you for accepting us into the BREW family. You do wonderful work
making sure every Beagle in your care finds the perfect home.

Blessings,

Daniel

Daniel

Daniel always seemed underfoot, I don’t know which one of us tripped over the other more, and I can’t believe he survived all these months without a broken toe or foot !  His energy always amazed me.  We believe he would be 11-ish during his stay with me, but he navigated the stairs and ran through the house like a two year old.  He followed me everywhere, all the time and he made sure I knew when it was mealtime.
.
Unfortunately, what he could not survive were all the mounting physical ailments and conditions he had (including Sundowners), and developed over the past eight months.  He valiantly tolerated every doctor appointment and test we scheduled for him.   Over the past two weeks, he showed more signs of decline.  The difficult decision was made, and Daniel crossed the bridge this morning (May 2, 2025).

Hug your fur babies for me tonight.  Here’s a photo of my little ole’ man

Maggie

Maggie

Our beloved Maggie came to us in 2018, a couple months after we lost our first beagle. She was a beautiful dog who was always happy to spend time with her people or sit in the warm sun.

Even though she lost a leg, it never slowed her down. She always enjoyed long walks – we got a stroller so she could rest when she got too tired – and she loved to sniff around the yard, snuggle on the couch, and eat the strawberries in the garden during the summer. She also loved to hop in the leaf piles while my husband was trying to rake them up!

Our house is a lot quieter without her. I will miss snuggling with her and carrying her to her dog bed and tucking her in at night. I know she is missing us too, and we will always love her. She made our days brighter and our lives better.

Barry

Barry

Barry’s heart was literally too big for this world…He crossed the Rainbow Bridge in early October. We knew he had congestive heart failure but thought we had more time.

Barry was the best “beagie” boy with the stinkiest breath. He was very quiet for a beagle…we only heard him “aroo” a time or two, but he did snore! He would do most anything for peanut butter or chicken. Walks were his favorite part of the day. He loved everyone he met and would bum scratches or treats off of anyone willing to provide them. He had two toned whiskers and nails with a slightly bent tail.

He earned the title of Canine Good Citizen and was prepped to be a therapy dog. Try convincing him that the couch and the bed weren’t there exclusively for him. He immediately bonded with our older lab mix, but respected her position as Queen Bee. He was skeptical about his human baby brother, but he got closer each day until he could be right beside us to watch over the baby or snuggle with us as we cared for our newborn. Barry had just one rule: don’t touch his paws.

We lost our older dog just 40 days before Barry, and all within 6 weeks of welcoming our first child. We never imagined we’d be saying goodbye again so soon. Two years of loving this sweet boy was not enough, but we gave him the very best life we could in that time. If this season has taught us anything, it’s that death is intertwined with life and tomorrow is not guaranteed. Cherish those you love, human and animal alike, and remind them just how special and valued they are.

Daisy

Daisy

About six months after our first beagle passed away, I began my search for another beagle love. I first saw Jangle and her siblings on your website in January of 2012. Jangle and her siblings were the elf pups that were rescued from a puppy mill in Missouri.

After applying to Midwest BREW and being approved, we started making plans to bring our girl home.  On two different weeks, Jangle was supposed to be on a volunteer flight to a city near Detroit and we were planning to drive there to pick her up. Both times, the flights were cancelled due to snowstorms. I decided I couldn’t wait for another planned flight and drove with my daughter to Chicago, where Jangle and some of her siblings were being fostered.

After a treacherous drive, we made it to our destination and picked up Jangle. Along with Jangle we also happily agreed to give a ride to another beagle, Jackson, whose new family were meeting us in our hometown to pick him up. On Jangle’s first night with us, her name was changed to Daisy.

Daisy was the best, sweetest, most loving pup. I don’t think she ever forgot who brought her home. I was her person, and my (adult) daughter was her second. Every time my daughter came home, Daisy would run around like a crazy nut, howling with happiness.

In the last year or so, Daisy developed symptoms of old age but she remained happy and content. Daisy loved to eat, especially cheese, and when she no longer wanted cheese, we knew it was time to let her go. She was tired, and I was heartbroken.

Thank you, Midwest BREW, for allowing us the privilege to love and be loved by such a special soul. Jangle/Daisy will never be forgotten . . . Daisy Leigh Sabolish 8/27/11 – 5/12/25.

Eve

Eve

“Eve was smart, complex, high-energy, and soulful. She formed deep connections with people and had a unique bond with each member of our family—giving us laughs, cuddles, photo-ops, and a fair share of fun challenges in her younger days. She answered to many names over the years — Big Man, Evie G., and Ever-Beaver among them. Each nickname captured a different side of her quirky, lovable personality. We got her when Millie was starting first grade; now Millie’s heading into her sophomore year of college. Eve was with us through some big seasons of life. She was a walker — walks were her joy. We logged well over 2,000 miles together. If I wasn’t up for it, the whole family could feel her disappointment. She mourned every missed walk like it was a personal loss. She’s no longer suffering, and for that, we’re grateful. But this one hurts. You were such a gift, Eve. Thank you for being part of our lives. We found her through Midwest BREW (Beagle Rescue, Education and Welfare)”
